Abstract landscapes are a particular interest of mine, perhaps because they can mean so many things to different people. Some may contain a focal point for the eye of the viewer, such as a minimalist or idealized form of a house (often little more than a sketched architectural framework), while others may be little more than a distant horizon, allowing the viewer to wander freely and explore the activity within the negative space of the image.
A subset of these is titled "Hiraeth", which is a Welsh word for homesickness, nostalgia, or the longing for a home to which one can never return, may no longer exist, or possibly never really have existed. It is a grief or sadness for things that have been lost, or simply no longer being as we remember them. My focus, as the artist, is not necessarily the feeling of loss itself, but the feeling of serenity, safety, and peace.
